Zero Balancing
Balancing Your Body and Mind
Zero balancing (ZB) combines energy work with physical manipulations. The therapist works to align your energy fields with your physical body. It's a holistic therapy that combines both Western and Eastern medical philosophies.
Zero balancing was created by osteopathic doctor, Fritz Smith, in the 1970's. His interest in energy work started when he saw Dr. J R Worsley do a demonstration on acupuncture. This demonstration peaked Smith's interest, and he started studying acupuncture not long after. He also began experimenting with combining his training in Western medicine with his new training in Eastern medicine.
He found success combining the osteopathic practice of bone manipulation with energy balancing. The patients that he tried his new techniques out on reported feeling grounded, centered and balanced. The patients described the therapy as transcending the physical.
This quality of ZB is what makes it so useful. It's a gentle therapy that can be used as a noninvasive way to treat chronic pain, relieve stress and improve the body's functioning. If you don't feel good, but can't put your finger on why exactly ZB can help you gain a sense of wellbeing.
Before your ZB session the therapist will ask you questions about your physical and emotional health. The therapist's goal is to align the two. Even while working on your aches and pains the therapist keeps you emotional state and the balancing of your energy in mind.
Once you're assessed, you will lay on your back on a massage table. You remain fully clothed for the therapy.
ZB follows a protocol. Though the methods used look the same, the pacing of protocol varies according to your needs. Sessions can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
