Vibration
Learn How to Massage
Vibration is a massage stroke used in Swedish massage. It is an oscillating stroke. It can be done vigorously to stimulate the muscles or gently to relax the muscles.
This stroke comes in three varieties:
- fine
- gross
- rocking or jostling
Some don't include rocking or jostling in this type of stroke, but in school I was taught that it was.
I never use the fine type of this stroke because I never liked getting it done to me. I tend not to use strokes in my massages that I don't like receiving. It involves using stiff arms and fingertips to shake the tissue superficially.
The gross type of this stroke involves rocking limbs and muscle groups.
Jostling or rocking involves shaking the client gently. I sometimes use jostling at the end of a massage if my client has gone to sleep. It's a good way to wake them up.
You don't usually use this stroke in the beginning of a massage. It's best used towards the middle or end of the massage.
