Tibetan Point Holding 5 Point Acupressure
Tibetan point holding is a massage technique that uses principles of acupressure to relax muscles and release emotions. This therapy is used in conjunction with therapies like iridology and kinesiology.
This technique was developed by Karen Peterson and John Walsh in 1989. It requires 5 therapists to work on a client at the same time. The therapists all hold acupressure points at together and look for signs of releases.
Similar to the ideas in myofascial release technique and other somatic therapies, they believe that holding these pressure points will help you experience an emotional release. Like many other Oriental therapies, the practitioners are trying to unblock meridians. Blockages in meridians can cause disease and pain. Unblocking the meridians helps balance to the body and restore health.
There is no formal certification required to practice this type of massage, but therapists can undergo a training period that takes five weeks.
