Spa Jobs
Massage Therapy Careers

Spa jobs aren't just a beginning step in your massage career, there are some veteran massage therapists who work in spas. There are spas all over the world and every spa offers massage. This makes spas a great place to for a massage therapist to seek employment.

When considering working in a spa, it's important to check the place out thoroughly. Find out what services they offer and what would be required of you.

Working in a spa doesn't restrict you to doing relaxation massages. These days a variety of types of massage therapy are offered in spas, including therapeutic forms of massage and even energy work.

In many spas, massage therapists do body wraps, scrubs, and paraffin wax treatments in addition to massage. Most spas will train you to do these things since many spas have their own unique wrap and scrub techniques.

Massage jobs vary in pay. Some spas pay hourly and some pay per massage. Spas can pay anywhere from $10 per hour to $100 dollars per massage to their therapists. Whether it's better to be per hour or per massage depends on how busy the spa is.

Just because a spa seems luxurious and expensive doesn't mean it pays well. One of the most expensive spas in the area where I live only pays their therapists $12 an hour. In spas you will make tips on top of your base pay. That's always a good bonus.

I've only substituted in spas and have never really worked in one full time, so I can only share my limited experience and what I've heard from others. I substituted for therapists in two main spas in my area. I didn't really like either experience, but that could just be because I was subbing and I didn't really know how things worked in the spa. I have a friend who started working in a very popular spa in our area who had difficulties working their and didn't like it. On the other hand I have a friend who worked in a small spa who was paid well and had an excellent experience there. Like I said before, you really need to check out the spa well before you work there to find out what the conditions are like.

If you find a spa that pays well and treats their therapists well you can have a long happy career in a spa. You don't have to think of spa work as just a stepping stone to get experience before moving on to something else. The right spa can provide you with great opportunities and a nice working environment.
