Home Spa Day
Simple Beauty Recipes
Having a home spa day is a great way to relax. You don't need to spend a lot of money to be pampered. You can have a luxurious, relaxing, healthy spa experience in your own home.
Plan your home spa day well in advance. You must make sure you have all the things you need. You don't want to have to run out to the store and pick up a few things on your relaxing day.
Think of some spa ideas. What do you want your spa experience to include? I'd suggest having some soothing essential oils on hand like lavender. I like pink grapefruit oil and basil oil. Choose whichever smells suit you best. Make sure you have candles. Candles are great for setting a relaxing mood. Have some magazines and a good book on hand. Pick out your favorite relaxing music to play.
Make a menu. When I have a spa day I like to eat light organic food. I'll have some plain yogurt mixed with fruit and nuts for breakfast and soup and a salad packed with green leafy vegetables for lunch. My spa days usually end around 4 when my family starts coming home from school activities and work so dinner is never included on my spa menu. I like to drink green tea on spa days. It's soothing and full of antioxidants and I like to have some rich dark chocolate as a special treat.
You can buy special facial masks, bath salts, body scrubs and massage oil from a variety of locations. If you buy these products, try to buy something that's made from natural ingredients. Remember that anything you put on your skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream. Don't use anything on your skin that you wouldn't eat. That may sound extreme, but if you think about it, it makes sense.
If you want you can also make these products at home with some ingredients you have around the house, here are a few simple recipes.
Facial Mask Recipes
Avocado Banana Mask
This mask nourishes and moisturizes the skin. It's great for dry skin.
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 avocado
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
Peel and mash the banana and avocado and mix it in a bowl with the yogurt. Apply to a clean dry face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Apple Mask
This recipe is good for oily skin or skin that's prone to acne.
- 1 medium apple grated
- 5 tablespoons warm honey
Stir ingredients together and apply to your face. After 10 minutes rinse with warm water.
Body Scrub Recipes
Body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate the skin. Just apply them by rubbing and a circular motion with firm pressure and rinse off. You don't have to apply them to your whole body. I'm a little lazy and usually only use them on my hands and feet. You can also use any of the oils I mentioned in the massage oil section in these recipes. I just used olive oil as an example because most people have olive oil in their kitchen.
Coffee Body Scrub
- 2 cups coarse coffee grounds
- 1/2 brown or light brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- a few drops of your choice of essential oils
Mix the ingredients in a bowl. After taking a bath or shower apply mixture by rubbing in large circles using firm pressure. Shower to rinse off.
Lemon Salt Glow
Salt pulls toxins out of muscles and has a very relaxing effect. If you have any cuts or rashes the effect isn't very relaxing. It will sting like the devil. Don't use a salt glow after shaving. That's will also hurt big time. Doing a salt glow treatment before shaving will help you get a closer shave.
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/2 tablespoon grated lemon zest
You don't want the salt to be too coarse because that will scratch you. If it seems coarse pulse it some in your food processor. Make ingredients in a bowl. Don't get it wet because then your salt will dissolve. Before showering, apply mixture in large circular motion using a firm touch.
Bath Salt Recipes
Lavender Bath Salts
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 8 drops lavender oil
You can add any essential oil in place of lavender oil to make bath salts that are most appealing to you.
If you want don't want to make your products yourself you can always use something you bought.
