Mayan Abdominal Massage
Massage for Infertility

Mayan abdominal massage is a non-invasive treatment that can help increase fertility, regulate periods and correct prolapsed uterus. It was brought to North America and Europe by Dr. Rosita Arvigo.

Dr. Arvigo is naprapathic physician and an herbalist. A naprapathic physician is a connective tissue specialist. Dr. Arvigo studied with Don Elijio Panti, a traditional Mayan healer and shamanist, in Belize for 10 years. She wrote about her experience in Sastun: One Woman's Apprenticeship with a Maya Healer and Their Efforts to Save the Vani. During her time studying with Panti, she became fascinated by the abdominal massages he performed for everything from complaints of menstrual pain to indigestion.

Panti thought that the uterus was the core of a woman's body. If the uterus is misaligned it can cause irregular periods, painful periods and ovulation, and infertility. He performed deep abdominal massage to put the abdominal organs back into proper position.

Dr. Arvigo set out to see if Panti's theories had any scientific basis. She determined that when the ligaments that hold the uterus in place become damaged or stretched the uterus will tip or shift to the side. This can cut off blood flow to the uterine tissue and cause menstrual and fertility problems.

Dr. Arvigo started honing the techniques she learned from Panti and teaching them to others. Her massage technique is called The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage ™ It can be used to treat:

  • infertility
  • prolapsed uterus and/or bladder
  • ovarian cysts
  • uterine fibroids
  • endometriosis
  • irregular menstrual cycles and ovulation
  • painful periods and ovulation
  • PMS/depression with menstruation
  • menopausal symptoms

Mayan abdominal massage can also benefit men. It can treat early stages of prostate swelling, mild prostatitis, and erectile dysfunction depending on the cause.

Mayan abdominal massage can also help with digestive problems, such as:

  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • chronic constipation
  • chronic indigestion or heartburn
  • gastro esophogeal reflux (GERD)
  • crohn's Disease
  • gastritis

Before the massage, your therapist will go over your medical history. After the massage, your therapist may give you some herbal remedies or teach you some home care techniques to do between sessions. Some people see improvement after their first session. Some take many months to see improvement. Most see improvement after three sessions. Practitioners report a 50% success rate for natural conception when working with couples experiencing fertility problems.
