Massage Therapy Oils

FNWL

Massage therapy oils are used in many forms of massage to provide glide for massage strokes. You can purchase many premixed oils designed especially for massage. Pure cold pressed oils can also be used.

Many different oils are used in massage these include:

  • grapeseed oil
  • jojoba oil
  • almond oil
  • apricot seed oil
  • avocado oil
  • coconut oil
  • olive oil
  • sesame oil
  • rice bran oil

Premade massage oils can be made by blending any of these oils. If a massage oil contains a petroleum product don't use it. Baby oil is also not appropriate to use as a massage oil because it contains petroleum. Using oils that are all natural is better for your health and for the health of the person you're massaging.

You'll often see premade oils that are blended with essential oils for certain therapeutic effects. They'll have names like relaxation massage therapy oils, therapeutic oils, and energizing oils. These oils contain a mixture of any of the above cold pressed oils and essential oils appropriate for the purpose of the oil. You can buy these premade oils but it's also quite easy to make your own blended massage therapy oils at home. Here are some simple recipes.

  • 6 drops chamomile essential oil
  • 6 drops sandalwood essential oil
