Massage Bolsters
Bolster Pillows for Massage Therapy
Massage bolsters are necessary in most types of massage therapy. Complicated systems like Body Cushions or just some simple pillows are some ways therapists bolster their clients. Here are some of the most common bolster pillows and the best ways to use them.
Bolster pillows can be used to support your client's legs to prevent strain on their low back while laying down. They can also be used to comfortably support clients who need to be massaged in a side-lying positions.
When the client is laying on his stomach, you can place a bolster or pillow under the ankles to release strain on the back. When laying on his back, you need to put the pillow or bolster under the knees. When your client is side lying, you can put a pillow between the client's knees and additional pillows under the head. You can place other pillows under the client where needed to make him more comfortable.
If you're interested in doing prenatal massage, I would avoid massage tables with a large whole cut in them for the woman's belly to hang through. Those cause strain on the back. Instead, buy bolsters make for pregnant clients. You can also use Body Cushions for pregnant clients.
You can use normal pillows as bolsters or you can buy bolsters made especially for massage here are some.
