As in many forms of Oriental massage, practitioners of this style of massage believe that there is a life force or energy that runs through the body. People familar with Traditional Chinese Medicine will know this as qi (chi). In Japan and Korea, it's known as ki. The therapist uses flowing massage strokes to encourage the flow of this life force. Acupressure points are also used to unblock blocked qi.
This type of massage can be used to treat:
- back pain
- neck pain
- joint pain
This type of massage is deeply therapeutic and can be used to treat sports injuries also.
The massage is done on a massage table or on a mat on the floor. The therapist starts out with long gliding strokes to warm up the tissue and get the blood flowing. Then the therapist will do some skin rolling to stimulate the nerve endings. Then the therapist will do some circular fiction with their thumbs followed by pressure point work on the hands and feet.
